so maybe i didn't get to the land of oz but the landscape was so different when we stepped out of the house after the storm. we took a little drive around to see the aftermath. it was so quiet after the constant howling. trees, posts, power lines were strewn across the streets. we could see the efficient munchkins scurrying to clear up the debris. apparently makati was even worse, with billboards adding to the pile. we drove by the bay til the part that was on reclaimed land. it looked like the storm was helping the bay reclaim its rightful place.
there were times as the storm was building up to its peak when we thought something would shatter the windows or the skylight. the pressure was making the skylight in the living room flap like a shirt on a line. in order to alleviate the pressure difference we had to open the windows a tiny bit. even though it was just a crack the wind managed to push the rain through! peering out the window offered the view of sheets of horizontal rain rushing down the street and the power lines being buffeted at a ninety degree angle. by God's grace the house remained unscathed. my other relatives were safe too.
i could hear the corrugated tin roofs hitting the streets outside. how did the people staying in the slum areas fare? perhaps we can ask the wizard at the end of the yellow brick road.
